Volunteers are also needed for Catholic Relief Services local outreach raising awareness of Catholic Social Teachings and organizing action at the parish on behalf of the poor and marginalized around the world. To help your efforts, there is a list of suggestions of what you – or a group of you - can do to in 5 to 10 hours per month. Your work, your voice, and your prayers at the local level makes a difference for the people CRS serves around the world! View list
National Migration Week
Each year, the Catholic Charities Parish Social Ministry also works with other Catholic Charities’ programs and the Hispanic Ministry of the Diocese of Palm Beach to promote National Migration Week. This annual observance is designed to raise awareness of the plight of migrants, particularly the most vulnerable migrants: children, undocumented refugees and victims of human trafficking and slavery. Because they often find themselves far away from home and dwelling in a new land, often poor with few possessions of their own, migrants are a vulnerable group of people and open to exploitation and abuse. For this reason we as a Catholic community should pay special attention to their needs, both religious and material, and advocate on their behalf with the hope of ensuring their protection and well-being.
During National Migration Week, the Parish Social Ministry spreads awareness about the Church teaching on migration and immigrants. The ministry provides various resources to our parishes and ministries developed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and its Justice for Immigrants. Please view our Events Calendar for any celebrations for this week.
In 2014, National Migration Week will take place January 5 -11. View more information
